When you get up in the morning do you just throw on whatever is in the floor, or do you actually pick something out that matches and goes together?

When questions such as these arise we also have to start to think about what is in style, because if it is in style to look very grunge, then you might pick up last night’s clothes and throw them on. However, most people will go to their closet and choose clothes based on three factors: What is in style, what looks good on you, and what your attitude is.

When people think of Arkansas the first few things that come to mind are hillbillies, rednecks and Bill Clinton. In reality not everyone in Arkansas is a hillbilly or a redneck. However, Bill Clinton is one we can’t deny.

Arkansas Tech is a perfect place to see diversity at its finest. We have people who you might classify as redneck, but on other end we have people who wear “fashion.”

Your fashion depends on how you were raised. I grew up with always looking through magazines wanting those high end clothes, but my little brother could care less about what he wears. My closet consists of Steve Madden and various other designers, while my little brother’s is camouflage and boots.

Fashion is also something that reoccurs every few decades. Here at Tech it can be seen varying from year to year and sometimes even semesters. I started college here at Tech in the fall of 2009 and one of the major trends seen throughout this campus was the look from the sixties. Headbands, bell bottom jeans, loose fitting tops, and various other hippie attributes consumed our campus. However most people say that fashion pops up again. Just wait a few years and a trend will return.

My mom always tells me that she wishes she would have kept her clothes from when she was in college, because I could wear them now and be in style. Sometimes I wish she would have. It would make my life a lot easier than trying to keep up with the latest trends.

Starting in 2000, every year had a different theme. If you wanted to be in the “in crowd” during 2001, you should have shown a little midriff and worn oversized Nikes because apparently that looked amazing to everyone. Destiny’s Child, N*Sync, and other pop bands were the inspiration for this not so fashionable look.

However, 2002 was a completely different story. You should have covered up and looked sleek and fabulous. 2005 was a year to remember with fashion because this is the year that the ripped jeans and grunge look came back for a while. Metal bands and various other artists were the influence for this bold fashion move.

In 2009 people started mixing different eras such as the grunge look with the hippie looks. Walking across campus I would see people dressed this way and could ultimately decide what look they were going for.

I love just sitting around different places on campus and trying to decide what fashion they are going for. Next time you are looking through your closet or perusing through racks at the mall think about that outfit coming back into style in another 20 years.

Mixing different eras like grunge with a hippie look

can improve your fashion style.
