Arkansas Tech is growing at a rapid rate. In the last few years, Tech has seen a steady rise in its student population and shows no signs of stopping. Obviously, the campus must grow with the student body, and that is exactly what is taking place. The most notable change to the campus is the construction of the Centenary Hall, the nearly finished structure next to the Doc Bryan building that will be the new home of the School of Business and the Academic Advising Center. “The advising center will move into the first floor of Centenary Hall and the School of Business will occupy the rest of the building," said Susie Nicholson, assistant to the president for university relations. The building is well on its way to being completed this November and should be open for business and classes by the spring semester. Another new addition students may have noticed on campus is the expansion of the Corley building. “As soon as they [the school of business and advising center] move out and construction is complete on the Corley expansion, all of the engineering department will be moved from the Energy Center into this new addition," Nicholson said. "As soon as that happens, the Energy Center will be remodeled for Speech, Theatre, and Journalism. There will be office space for the faculty, there’s also some classroom space, and the television station will be moved there as well.” There are also discussions about a new Student Union building as well. While details are vague at this time, Nicholson said that, “the idea is being tossed around at the moment.” “There are no definite parking lot plans at the moment, but parking is something we are always looking at. Parking is always being discussed, it’s always a hot topic, and I’m certain that there will be some new parking in the next several years, but there’s no definite plans at the moment,” she added. |
