Activities ranging from ice skating to a Greek Olympiad will highlight Wonder Week 2012. The activities begin Monday, Feb. 13, and conclude Saturday, Feb. 18.
"Rally at the Tower" will open the week of activities on Feb. 13, with a pep rally at the Hindsman Tower. The pep rally begins at 8, followed by free ice skating until midnight on a skating rink that will be set up at the Hindsman Tower. "Tech on Ice" will be Feb. 14, when local bands will provide music from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with free ice skating from 8 to 11 p.m. "Light the Night," an international festival, will be held Feb. 15 at the Hindsman Tower from 7 to 9 p.m., hosted by the International and Multicultural Student Services office. Free food, origami, music and other activities will be held., including a Lantern Festival at 8:45 p.m. The festival will be moved to Tucker Coliseum if there is inclement weather. The annual "Let's Can Hunger" canned food sculpture competition will also be held Feb. 15. Sponsored by SIFE and the Student Government Association, the sculptures will be on display in the Young Game Room beginning at 4 p.m. The Olympiad, sponsored by the Greek Life councils, will be held Feb. 16 beginning at 3 p.m. at Hull and the football field track. Chariot races and other events, including three-legged race, balloon stomp, egg toss and others will be held. Magician Peter Boie will offer Magic for Non-Believers beginning at 8 p.m. in Doc Bryan Lecture Hall. "Vegas Night" will be held Feb. 17 from 8 p.m. to midnight in Doc Bryan. The event is sponsored by the Residence Hall Association and Alcohol and Other Drug Education. It will feature a black light casino, mocktails, music, dancing, pizza and an oxygen bar. "Wonder Walk," a fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, will be held Feb. 18, hosted by Up 'Til Dawn. The 5K run/walk starts from Tucker Coliseum at 9 a.m. "Gold Rush" concludes Wonder Week activities beginning at 1 p.m. on Feb. 18 with a chili cook-off. Hosted by all the Wonder Week sponsors, the activities will be held at Tucker Coliseum and will continue through the end of the basketball games. Student organizations can compete for prizes throughout the week. The Student Government Association and Student Activities Board are primary sponsors of the week, in addition to sponsors for some of the individual activities on selected days.
