Once again, the opponents of Sen. Barack Obama have tried to misconstrue his statements to possess something with which they can attack him.
Obama expressed his concern for middleclass America by making a statement referring to them as “bitter” and distrustful of the government. Alluding to the outsourcing of jobs that has crippled many communities and left thousands without employment, Obama stated that “the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are going to regenerate and they have not.” Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain have taken this statement and have used it against him saying that the people of middleclass America are all hunky-dory and that they do not hear anyone complaining while stating that Obama’s remarks were offensive and elitist. This is simply yet another attempt to dig up something negative against Barack Obama. In trying to spin Obama’s words against him, his opponents have made it apparent that they do not realize the real problem of outsourcing. The Economic Policy Institute estimates that 3 million manufacturing jobs have been sent overseas since 1998, with more being lost every day. Outsourcing jobs has only negative effects for the common man. While it saves the company loads of money, outsourcing leaves local communities high and dry. Rising unemployment, lower wages, and economically strained towns are just a few examples of the negative effects outsourcing has on America. The problem of outsourcing is very real, and it has adversely affected millions of Americans. It is laughable how Clinton and McCain are essentially ignoring the issue of shipping jobs off-shore. The next president should be prepared to confront this problem with gusto in order to provide employment to the millions of people who are without because of outsourcing. Thus, in their attempt to attack Obama,Clinton and McCain have simply revealed how insensitive they are to working class Americans. If they are not willing to even acknowledge the ever growing issue of outsourcing, how can we Americans trust either of them to curb the problem? |
