As a high school student I heard many a horror story of people who had gone off to college and racked up thousands of dollars in credit card bills. Of course, at the time I thought that there was no way that could possibly be me one day.

Blue aliens, a dream world, humans trying to destroy it, and a love story all equal one fabulous movie: Avatar.  But, when I first heard that people were getting depressed from this movie, I thought it was ridiculous. While the majority of fans walk away feeling happy and satisfied with the movie, some have done just the opposite.

This presidential election, it seems like people care more about the outcome in November than ever before. It is nearly impossible not to hear about it. The Internet is flooded with new information of the Democratic and Republican campaigns updated by the hour and major news networks consistently have election updates to keep us informed. It comes up in every day conversations and in classroom settings. And with the race so close between Barack Obama and John McCain, it only makes sense for us to realize the importance of the running mates each of them have chosen to be a potential Vice President of the United States.

Personally, I am very confused about Obama’s health care initiative, as I know many other people are. And since many people are confused as to what Obama’s goals are for this plan alongside some gossip concerning coverage of illegal immigrants and funding of abortions, many people are against his plan in total.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned in my first year at Arkansas Tech is how to deal with people on a day-to-day basis, especially how to live with them. As a relatively private person, I was apprehensive about living on campus with many people that I didn’t know; I had a complete stranger for a roommate and had to share a community bathroom with the rest of my floor mates. As this year reaches its end I have learned a few things about residential life that I think others could relate to, and perhaps help those who wonder about living on campus.
