Personally, I am very confused about Obama’s health care initiative, as I know many other people are. And since many people are confused as to what Obama’s goals are for this plan alongside some gossip concerning coverage of illegal immigrants and funding of abortions, many people are against his plan in total.

According to barackobama.com, the vital need for a health care plan is due to the number of uninsured Americans, many Americans being denied coverage, and insurance premiums that just keep climbing. His initiative is to reform the system and expand coverage, lower costs and improve quality.

But how is he going to do all of those wonderful things with our unstable economy? The answer is taxes. For liberal America, this is a good thing because Obama only wants to tax the people who make 250,000 dollars per year or more. But for the conservative America, that would take away equality in the land of America. In their eyes, and I’m not disagreeing on this point, it is unequal to tax one group of Americans instead of all Americans. In America we strive for equality and this is a step away from that.

In the Obama’s weekly address, he dispelled the rumors about illegal immigrants and abortions. Illegal immigrants are not citizens, they cannot have coverage with any other insurance company as is and there will not be an exception with this health reform. Many people fear that with this plan abortion coverage could be mandated, but Obama says in relation to abortions that, “nothing will change under reform.”

From what I understand of Obama’s plan, he wants America’s system to resemble the Canadian system. I’m not convinced that this is going to work right now. Obama has made some opposing statements about people who are happy with their current health insurance plan and doctor. He has said that if you’re happy with your insurance then keep it.

But with how this plan is supposed to go into effect things will certainly change, because after five years no matter what insurance plan you already have people will basically be forced to be under the qualified Obama plan. Those insurance companies that offer a wide variety of coverage will only be able to offer the qualified plans when this goes into effect. If someone purchases an insurance plan before this happens, and that plan changes whether it be co-pay, deductable, or anything else, that person will be forced to drop that plan and then be put into Obama’s.

When in effect, states will impose the plan and have required minimums imposed by the federal government. If you’re happy with your doctor then you’re supposed to be allowed to keep it, right? Wrong. This will be set up similar to an HMO and people will be assigned doctors. So as long as you can stay out of Obama’s plan then yes you can choose your doctor, but staying out of it will be difficult.

The biggest problem that I’ve found would be the option to choose a high-deductable plan. Those plans are what make the industry competitive and what makes buyers spend their own money rather than their employer’s money. With this economy we need more people purchasing high-deductable coverage rather than with Obama’s plan and the lack of ability to purchase those plans.

Yes, America is not looking so good right now with the economy and many people without insurance. But this plan is not the way to go about correcting it. People will be aggravated that they have to change their insurance policies, that if they can hold out they’ll be paying for it themselves while paying taxes to cover Obama’s plan as well as their own, and that in the land of the free they won’t be so free to choose their health coverage.

The intentions are good, but I know that what the government intends to happen and what usually happens are two completely different things. I believe that if this goes through, we’ll be in more trouble then, than we are now. And that is why you should say you are against this plan, not just because you are confused.
