The Golden Suns historic start ended Monday night following a 72-78 loss to unranked Christian Brothers at Canale Arena in Memphis, Tenn. The loss came just nine days after the Golden Suns knocked off then No. 2 Delta State in Tucker Coliseum and snaps an 18 game winning streak for Tech.
Tech entered halftime with a comfortable 38-25 lead, but could not stop Christian Brothers in the second half as the Lady Bucs outscored the Golden Suns 53-34 in the second half. It was the most points surrendered in a half by the Golden Suns this season.
Natalia Santos led the Golden Suns with 17 points and five rebounds, while Katie Horsman and Laura Beth Anderson chipped in 16 and 15 respectively. Jessica Weatherford, who was coming off impressive performances against Ouachita Baptist and Delta State, managed only three points in the loss. Leading the way for the Lady Bucs were Sheena DeBose and Tameka Wooten, who each scored 19 points. Jasmine Ellis compiled a double-double performance with 12 poins and 13 rebounds. Wooten played the entire 40 minutes for Christian Brothers. The loss could knock Tech out of the top spot in the regional rankings when they are released on Wednesday, opening the door for Fort Valley State who was ranked third in the last regional poll. Tech and Delta State both suffered losses this week, with the Lady Statesmen falling to underdog Henderson State on Saturday. The Golden Suns return to action Thursday, hitting the road to take on Southern Arkansas in Magnolia. The game is set to tip off at 5:30. |
