The Wonder Boys unbeaten streak stayed alive despite a strong second half effort by Christian Brothers in Canale Arena Monday night. While Tech never trailed in the contest, the Bucs managed to keep the game close throughout.
Tech raced out to an 19-7 lead, but the Bucs, who swept the Wonder Boys last season, would not go quietly. A late run by Christian Brothers to end the half cut the Tech lead to 25-21 at the break. In the second half the Bucs would come within a point of tying the game at the 8:36 mark, but failed to tie or gain the lead. Tech went on to win by a final score of 52-46.
Jeremy Dunbar kept pace for the Wonder Boys with 20 points, while James Causey added another 10. Irvin Humphrey ended the game with three blocked shots. Christian Brothers was led by Scott Dennis, who led all scorers with 21 points and completed a double-double performance with 12 rebounds in a losing effort. Kyle Couvion added 10 points and four rebounds for the Bucs. With the win Tech will likely retain their No. 1 ranking for the third straight week, tying the GSC record set by Montevallo. The Wonder Boys will continue their pursuit for perfection Thursday against Southern Arkansas in Magnolia. Tech defeated the Muleriders 79-52 on Jan. 9 in Tucker Coliseum. Tip off is set for 7:30. |
