The Suns’ cross country team continued to look impressive this season, traveling to Memphis and finishing 13th out of 36 teams in the Brooks/Memphis Twilight Classic.

In their second heat of the season, Tech scored 374 points to finish only five points behind Austin Peay, while distancing themselves from 14th place North Alabama by 57 points.

Junior Melissa Pollreis led the Suns again, finishing 55th out of 275 runners, running the 5,000-meter course in a time of 20:17:68.

Following Pollreis were fellow Suns junior Michelle Pollreis, senior Kayla Waldrup, and sophomore Lauren Karnitz, who placed 81st, 82nd, and 83rd respectively.

“I was proud of the way our team ran against a strong field of competitors,” Suns head coach Tom Aspel said. “We had four runners finish in the top hundred and that was impressive from a team standpoint.”

Senior Brianna Greene finished right outside the top 100 bubble, placing 101st, while sophomore Erika Wardlaw placed 114th and freshman Jessica Norris 177th.

Tech returns to action Saturday when it travels to Joplin, Mo., for the 5,000-meter Missouri Southern Stampede. The race starts at 8:30 a.m.
