This past weekend, Tech finished 27th out of the 37 teams that competed in the Missouri Southern Stampede – the same course where the Division II Championship will be held. Tech competed well, having three runners finish in less than 20 minutes. Coach Tom Aspel said that the team hadn’t “had three runners [do that] in several years.” Of the three top runners, Lauren Karnitz placed 95th overall with a time of 19:29. Following Karnitz’s example, Kayla Waldrup crossed the finish line – 20 seconds later, and was followed closely by Melissa Pollreis with a time The rest of team, including Julia Huie, Brianna Greene, Carrie Sowers and Amber Tury finished out the 5,000- meter run all in under 22:30. These performances led Tech to its placement and set a strong precedent for the season to come. Tech returns to action Saturday at the Orange Crush Invitational in Conway hosted, by Hendrix College. |
