I realize that it is only week two of the NFL season, but in numerous social circles I am behind the eight-ball already when talking about playoff and Super Bowl predictions for this season.

Numerous analyst and fans alike seem to have shifted their thinking when picking playoff contenders to what I like to call a New York Yankee mindset.

It seems as though at the start of the season the team with the most high-profile players has to be the best. This is the type of thinking that can leave you scratching your head when the playoffs start and your picks didn’t make the cut.

Always remember, when it comes to true Super Bowl contenders one must learn to taste the Kool-Aid, not drink it.

This week, the teams that I feel will make the playoffs from the NFC:

The Philadelphia Eagles with quarterback Michael Vick are a team most people have picked to win the Super Bowl.

The Eagles will win the NFC East division, but barely and will make an early exit from the playoffs. Vicks legs can only carry the Eagles so far.

The New Orleans Saints with quarterback Drew Brees lined up behind the center have been a threat to shake up the NFC South playoff race since winning the Super Bowl in 2010.

The Saints will look to prove that winning the Super Bowl two years ago was no fluke victory.

In what many consider to be the weakest division in the NFL, the NFC North should be won by the San Francisco 49ers under first-year Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh has an eye for talent, and the progression this team has made plus the help of a weak division should have the 49ers back in the playoff picture for the first time in years.

The Green Bay Packers are the defending Super Bowl champs and will look to repeat as such this season.

While winning back-to-back championships is never easy, look for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to lead the Packers to win the NFC South division title on the way back to the Super Bowl.

When looking at the two wildcard spots the Dallas Cowboys are a clear favorite if quarterback Tony Romo can stay healthy and the defense fills the depth in the defensive backfield.

In what may be a surprise pick, the Detroit Lions will be a team to watch this season.

The Lions defense with Ndamukong Suh has become dangerous, while the offense is firing on all cylinders as the Lions hope to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history.

In next week’s edition of The Arka Tech I will give my AFC picks for the 2011 NFL season.

Who do you feel will make it to the Super Bowl?
