The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team starts the 2011 season as a member of the new Great American Conference. Tech, which finished last season with a 31-5 overall record and claimed its second Gulf South Conference West Division title in the last three years, was voted as a clear favorite to win the first ever GAC title by the 2011 GAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

Arkansas Tech volleyball saw its stay in the 2010 Gulf South Conference Tournament halted here Saturday afternoon as the Golden Suns fell in four sets to North Alabama (25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18) in the semifinals of the tournament at the UWF Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of West Florida.

Arkansas Tech volleyball continued its winning ways here Tuesday evening as the Golden Suns posted a three-set win over Arkansas-Monticello (25-18, 25-11, 25-17) and in the process clinched its second Gulf South Conference West Division title in the last three years and fifth overall title since joining the league in 1996 and earning the No. 1 seed from the West Division in next weekend’s GSC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla.

Kera Dukic recorded 44 assists and nine digs, while Ashlynn Hamrick racked up 16 kills in a losing effort against Arkansas-Monticello. The struggling Cotton Blossoms walked into Tucker Coliseum as underdogs, but left with a stunning sweep of the favored Golden Suns.
