Why is Nkosi Johnson pictured on Google Doodle today?
By: Margaret Wilson
Today, Google Doodle developers have published a new drawing featuring Nkosi Johnson.
Nkosi Johnson was born in 1989 in South Africa. He was HIV-infected from the very birth and dedicated all his life to the fight for equal rights for HIV-positive children.
Nkosi felt something was wrong right in the school. The following years became a real challenge for him, as the boy had not only to fight the incurable disease, but overcome human fear and hostility. As a result, the parliament had to adopt a law equalizing the rights for all children.
When Nkosi became a little older, he created a non-profit organization to fight AIDS, which has been working up to nowadays.
Nkosi Johnson died in 2001 at the age of 12.
